SUPPLYING AIR TO DELAY ASPHYXIA

Since 1936 an average of 24 people die yearly due to avalanche accidents in Switzerland . The cause of death for most people is asphyxia, meaning they die as a result of a deficient supply of oxygen to the body. This report analysis and develops technical solutions to address the problem of asphyxia, by actively supplying air and removing CO2 from the burial victim. Thereby the duration of survival should be increased, giving rescuers more time for a successful rescue. During this report different concepts are developed and analysed. The most promising concept is finally realised in the form of a prototype.
